Red, Hot and Blue
We’re in the dog days of July, and nestled on racks keeping their distance from all the summer sale merch at Saks are the first harbingers of fall. Sweaters! Turtlenecks! Cashmere! Wool! Shades of brown and burgundy!
And I’m thinking, yesssss!
I haven’t quite been able to bring myself to slip one of those M Missoni sweaters over my sunburned shoulders, but it is awfully nice to look at them. But soon it will happen. Already the summer clothes on the sale racks look old, tired. I mean, I’m so over some of the stuff I just bought at 60% off. I know, I know. I was just gloating over these buys like two weeks ago. Call me fickle.
So as I park myself in front of the air conditioner and gaze longingly at the wool trench already on the front page of the Neiman’s website, I’m putting together my shopping list for fall (subject to change when new merch comes in, of course):
M Missoni cowl neck sweater: Oooh, nice collar to brace myself against arctic winds. Or maybe just September breezes?
Philosophy velvet jacket and sailor pants: Velvet always makes me feel festive — which means the holidays are just around the corner(ish)!
Roberto Cavalli shearling jacket: Oh my god, the thought of something furry on me in this heat makes me break into hives. It’s almost as bad as being touched by some stranger’s errant hair in a hot, crowded subway car. I mean, I can barely stand being touched by my own hair…
Argh! Okay, I was wrong. I’m just not ready for it! I realize it’s a failure of imagination, but I just can’t think of having anything heavier than cotton (lawn at that) on my skin. Now if Neiman’s decides to do a trunk show in a walk-in freezer, count me in!
