White Nights

Wednesday, April 5th, 2006

I’ve been trying for a long time to resist the typical all-black New York wardrobe — well, I try, anyway, but come on, winters are hard when it’s near impossible to wake up in the morning, much less coordinate clothes, shoes and accessories. But since I’m so obsessed with white this season (other than in footwear, that is) I decided to look for a whole spring wardrobe of just white. Okay, maybe just a week’s worth. Okay, and still I wasn’t completely successful — there’s some navy and black thrown in, just because they look so good together!

This Emilio Pucci Embroidered Tunic Dress makes me think of an afternoon match at the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. The beading might stir up some dress-code controversy — not to mention some foot faults, should any beads fall off…

If not that one, then there’s this Peter Som Hand-Embroidered Tunic Dress: I’m loving the puffed sleeves (one of the dresses I ordered has similarly ballooned sleeves). Does it kinda remind me of my mother’s table cloth? Yeah, I guess so…

But worn with this navy Marc Jacobs Jacket with Front Pockets, it would be lovely! Similar volume in the sleeves… Did I mention I ordered an ivory-colored spring coat (somewhat more formal than this one, but still wearable with jeans) in a stiff wool-silk fabric like this one? Just lovely! Can’t wait to get my hands on it.

This Marc by Marc Jacobs Eyelet Pleated Skirt needs to come in white.

This Nanette Lepore Senorita Eyelet Top would be great with a skirt with some volume (like this Celine Silk Organza Skirt), and my new red Christian Louboutin ribbon espadrilles.

And this Catherine Malandrino Embroidered Voile Blouse would look great with some slim trousers and the same pair of Louboutins.

Okay, this one’s mostly white: Fendi Polka Dot Sleeveless Blouse. Does that count??

I think that was barely a week’s wardrobe. I guess if you’re not in the Navy (or a nurse) it’s not so easy wearing all white!

Wanted: The Perfect Heel

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

Now that I’m getting the made-just-for-me dress, I need to find the perfect shoes to go with it: something strappy, metallic (I’ve narrowed it down to copper or bronze), with 3 1/2 inch heels. I’ve been to Saks, Bergdorf’s and Barneys and I still haven’t found what I’m looking for!

I saw lots of soft gold leather, from Prada wedges (adorable, but not quite the right vibe) to these Jimmy Choo heels (which come darn close, but the wrong color). These Dolce & Gabbana heels are closer to the right color but the straps are fabric, not leather. I love these YSLs but they’re the wrong color and wrong material. And these Manolos aren’t strappy enough, or metallic enough…

It’s killing me that I won’t be able to wear the new dress until I can find the right footwear. I’m picking up the dress on Thursday… so I’ve got three more days to look!

Manolo lemon heels

At least I have the shoes for my other dress all figured out. This is a swatch of the silk twill that’s being used for the halter dress — and the lemon Manolo heels that I’ve now built three outfits around!
