To Bake or Not to Bake
Oh the horrors have I seen! Sitting by the pool and walking along the beach these past few days, I’ve been shocked at the number of people who still slather up with suntan oil, lay out and bake. Now to be sure, we pasty New Yorkers, after a long winter, can all use a little sun and vitamin D. But I’m not talking about moderation here. I’m talking about shake-and-bake, lay out until your skin has the color of a boiled lobster and the texture of a cheap leather handbag. To top it all off, many of these sun worshippers (or should I say abusers?) were smoking.
Not to sound like Debbie Downer or a Puritanical nag, but that’s really bad for you! I’m not even talking about your chances of getting cancer — just think about the wrinkles! If you don’t care about your health, at least care about your appearance. A hint of color from a trip to the tropics is nice. Looking like you just came out of an Italian leather factory? Not so much.

Isn’t it amazing that people still do that? It’s like they don’t have a clue! I’d be very concerned with aging if not anything else, and I’m not white! That’s another thing, people of color think that it doesn’t affect them but it does.

It’s stupid that people think they have to be tan to look good. Being pale isn’t bad at all. It’s natural, which most people are attracted to. What’s important is an even skin colour - no tan lines. Why bother doing the damage to yourself when you ahve to use fake tan to blend tan lines anyway? Wouldn’t you just fake tan all over? There are some really good ones around that AREN’T orange, if you can apply it properly.
