Oh Give Me a Home…

I officially have closet envy. My sister just moved into a new house, and her walk-in closet is something to behold. It’s a good 150 sq. ft. of rails and rails of color-coordinated clothes, plus a full wall of shelves for her shoes… and even a glass case for the exotic skins. Oh, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven — or maybe Bergdorf’s West. But, I told myself, that’s California — suburbia. Back home in Manhattan, land of tiny pre-war apartments and tinier closets, I figured I wouldn’t have it rubbed in my face at every corner. But what do you know: Every new condo I see pushes me ever closer to the edge. The first apartment on the Upper West had a fully fitted walk-in closet that in truth could qualify as another bedroom, or at least an office, or a nursery (but really would be much happier holding my wardrobe, of course). Then the ante was upped in Chelsea, with the walk-through dressing area, which led into a bathroom with a slammin’ glass-encased shower. (And let’s not even talk about the self-closing, non-slamming toilet seats and drawers…)

Okay, so for the price of these 1,200 sq. ft. Manhattan “mansions” you could buy five real mansions in the heartland (as my mother likes to remind me), but how would I get my Bergdorf’s fix there? Now where was that lottery ticket…?

      Note from the Heartland (Detroit):
Bergdorf’s is a close as your computer. For Saks and Nordstrom, you do have to spend 30 minutes in the car…

Welcome back. Love, love, love the shoes…
